After we left the Oregn coast, we stopped in Medford for a few days to see my cousins. The following is a picture of me with cousins Lenora, JB, and Neil.
Next we went to Klamath Falls, OR and stayed at the county fairgrounds. While we were there we did a day trip to Crater Lake. This lake is so beautiful! Dean and I walked down the only hiking trail to the water. My knee, after a total knee replacement in April, did great. Then we had a picnic overlooking the lake.
Our next stop was Lassen National Park in Northern California. We stayed two days and hiked Bumpass a Hell to the geothermal pools.
We drove to Placerville, California to visit friends Lori and Bill Wahl and do some wine tasting. The first picture is at Mira Flores winery during a wine-pairing luncheon.
Above is at the Boeger winery after some major wine tasting!
On our way south we traveled Hwy 395, one of the best roads to travel in the US. Our first stop on this Highway was Mono Lake. We visited the visitor center and did a hike alongside the lake in the south tufta area.
Along Hwy 395 there are some great free BLM campgrounds. We stayed outside Mammoth Lakes and hiked Devils Postpile. The formations on this hillside are very interesting.
The above picture was taken on the top of Devils Postpile. Chica was with us during this hike.
Our last stop on Hwy 395 was Manzanar Relocation center north of Lone Pine. This was one of the detention centers for the Japanese-Americans during WWII. There is a very nice visitors center, 2 restored bunkers, a drive around the grounds, with a memorial and restored gardens.
I really enjoyed visiting this historical place even though is it very sad that this had to happen. It is free and very informative. We missed some other sites on Hwy 395 so we will definitely return to this part of California again!
We are home now. Dean is busy working on the RV and I am getting ready to go to Turkey. Hopefully, I will be able to blog on the international trip.
Bye for now.
