Florida - Freeport, Apalachicola NF, and Homosassa Springs SP

On our first night in Florida we stayed in the driveway of another SKP - Pete and Sherry Petrie. They live west of Freeport on the Choctawhatchee Bay. We got their name out of the 2011 Travel Guide and they were very gracious hosts. The driveway was a little tight but we enjoyed the beautiful trees and vegetation. We also enjoyed HH on their dock overlooking the bay.

The second night we spent at a boondocking spot in the Apalachicola NF, south of Tallahassee. We found this spot through Day's End and we loved it. Buckhorn Hunt camp is just a open field 2 miles off Hwy 267. It is free camping for anyone except during hunting season. Then you need to be a hunter to camp there. We were the only ones there - very quiet and beautiful.

On our third night in florida we stopped at Village Pines Campground (Passport America) outside of Inglis. I wanted to see the manatees and heard that this was the area.

After talking to the manager of our campground we found out that Homosassa Springs State Park is the place to see manatees. Even though this is a park and animals are not 'in the wild' we enjoyed the park, how they are caring for the animals and the short programs. Well worth the money.
